NRGkick NRGkick Wallbox Modbus TCP template

NRGkick Wallbox

Monitors and controls NRGkick EV wallbox charging via Modbus TCP.

This template connects NRGkick 11kW and 22kW wallboxes to ModbusCloud via Modbus TCP. It reads energy, power, voltage, current, temperature, and charging status. It also provides control over charging current, phase count, and charge pause.

Number of installations (optional)

Use cases

  • Monitor live charging power, voltage, and current per phase on a cloud dashboard for each NRGkick wallbox.
  • Create an alert when the NRGkick housing temperature exceeds a safe threshold during prolonged charging sessions.
  • Control charging current and phase count remotely to implement dynamic load balancing across multiple EV chargers.
  • Track total charged energy per wallbox to generate usage reports for billing or energy audits.
  • Pause and resume charging sessions remotely via the ModbusCloud platform without physical access to the wallbox.
  • Combine NRGkick charging data with solar production readings to visualize self-consumption in real time.

Installation

  1. Ensure the NRGkick wallbox and the ModbusCloud Gateway are connected to the same local network.

  2. Assign a static IP address to the NRGkick wallbox or create a DHCP reservation so the address does not change.

  3. In the ModbusCloud portal, import the NRGkick Wallbox template and enter the wallbox IP address and Modbus TCP port (default 502).

  4. Verify that data appears on the dashboard by checking live values for voltage, current, and charging status.

  5. If you plan to control charging current or phase count, test write commands with a low current value first and confirm the wallbox responds correctly.

  6. Consult the official NRGkick API documentation for register behavior details when calculating phase count and current for a desired power setpoint.

Things to watch for

Why can I not set a desired charging power directly on the NRGkick wallbox?

The NRGkick wallbox does not accept a direct power setpoint via Modbus. You need to calculate the required number of phases and the current in amperes to reach your target power. For example, 7.4kW single phase at 230V requires approximately 32A.

What Modbus TCP port does the NRGkick wallbox use?

The default Modbus TCP port is 502. Verify this in your NRGkick settings or API documentation if the connection fails.

The gateway cannot connect to the wallbox. What should I check?

Confirm that the wallbox and the gateway are on the same subnet. Check that the wallbox IP address is correct and that no firewall rules block port 502. A static IP or DHCP reservation is recommended.

Does this template work with both the 11kW and 22kW NRGkick models?

Yes. The Modbus TCP register map is the same for both variants. The template supports the NRGkick 11kW and the NRGkick 22kW.
