If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.
Use cases
- Monitor room temperature, humidity, CO2, and TVOC levels on a live cloud dashboard for each zone in a building.
- Create an alert when CO2 concentration exceeds 1000 ppm to prompt ventilation adjustments.
- Track TVOC trends over time to verify that ventilation systems maintain acceptable indoor air quality.
- Log presence detection data to correlate occupancy patterns with HVAC energy consumption.
- Adjust the temperature offset remotely via the ModbusCloud platform to fine-tune sensor calibration on site.
- Compare indoor climate data across multiple sensortec room sensors installed in different rooms or floors.
Installation
Wire the sensortec ED-THCV-MB sensor to the ModbusCloud gateway RS-485 terminals (A, B, and GND), observing correct polarity.
Supply the sensor with 24 VDC or 24 VAC according to the installation manual.
Set a unique Modbus slave address on the sensor using its onboard configuration method, and confirm the baud rate is 19200 with even parity.
Add a termination resistor at the end of the RS-485 bus if the sensor is the last device on the line.
Import the sensortec AG ED-THCV-MB template in the ModbusCloud platform and assign it to the correct gateway and slave address.
Verify that live readings for temperature, humidity, CO2, and TVOC appear on the dashboard before closing the installation.
Things to watch for
Why do I see zero or no data for CO2 or TVOC registers?
The available registers depend on the product variant. A TH model does not have CO2 or TVOC sensors, so those registers will not return valid data. Confirm your exact model designation before expecting all readings.
What unit does the temperature offset register use?
The temperature offset register uses centikelvin (cK), not degrees Celsius. For example, a value of 100 cK equals a 1 K offset. Make sure to convert accordingly when writing to this register.
The TVOC values seem very high compared to the product datasheet. Is the unit correct?
The Modbus register reports TVOC in ppb (parts per billion), not ppm as some product documentation states. Divide by 1000 if you need ppm values for reporting.
Communication fails even though wiring looks correct. What should I check?
Confirm that the baud rate is set to 19200 and parity is set to even (1 stop bit) on both the sensor and the ModbusCloud gateway. Also verify the slave address and check for proper RS-485 bus termination.
