Installation

1. 1Connect the RS-485 A and B wires from your ModbusCloud gateway (MCG or MLP series) to the RJ45 COM1 or COM2 port on the SolPlanet inverter, following the RJ45 pinout in the inverter manual.
2. 2Verify that the inverter serial settings are 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, and that the Modbus device address is set to 1 (or note the configured address).
3. 3In the ModbusCloud platform, import the SolPlanet inverter Modbus template and assign it to the connected gateway.
4. 4Set the gateway RS-485 port parameters to match the inverter settings: 9600 8N1 and the correct device address.
5. 5Confirm communication by checking that PV voltage and device state values appear on the ModbusCloud dashboard.
6. 6If you have multiple inverters on the same RS-485 bus, assign a unique Modbus address to each inverter and duplicate the template accordingly.

Things to watch for

Which pins on the RJ45 connector are used for RS-485 communication?

The RS-485 A and B data lines are available on the RJ45 plug at the COM1 or COM2 port. Refer to the SolPlanet inverter manual for the exact pin numbers, as the pinout varies by model revision.

The gateway cannot read any registers from the inverter. What should I check?

Verify that the baud rate is set to 9600 with 8N1 framing on both the gateway and the inverter. Confirm the Modbus device address matches. Also check that the RS-485 A and B wires are not swapped.

Can I use this template for single-phase SolPlanet inverters?

The template is designed for three-phase, two-string models. For single-phase or single-string inverters, you will need to remove or remap the unused phase and string registers based on the specific model register map.

Does the remote power switch command work immediately?

The inverter processes the power on/off command within a few seconds. Ensure the gateway has write access enabled and that the correct register address is configured in the template.
