Flush-mounting microprocessor sensors for ambient temperature and humidity measurement with display baud rate 19200
Measures ambient temperature and humidity with LED display and setpoint control
SETECNA MB-THL-SXX is a flush-mount sensor for ambient temperature and relative humidity measurement via Modbus RTU at 19200 baud. The template reads temperature (0.1°C resolution), humidity (0.1% RH resolution), and setpoint values. It also allows remote control of temperature setpoints and seasonal min/max limits.

Use cases
- Monitor ambient temperature and humidity across multiple rooms on a single cloud dashboard.
- Adjust temperature setpoints remotely without dispatching a technician to the building.
- Create alerts when room humidity exceeds a threshold to prevent condensation or mould issues.
- Track seasonal setpoint limit changes to verify correct winter and summer comfort configurations.
- Log temperature and humidity trends over time for energy audits and compliance reporting.
Installation
Mount the MB-THL-SXX sensor in a standard 503 flush-mount box, ensuring it occupies two positions and is fitted with a compatible faceplate (BTicino, Vimar, Gewiss, ABB or similar).
Connect the RS485 A and B terminals of the sensor to the corresponding RS485 port on the ModbusCloud Gateway, observing correct polarity and using twisted-pair cabling.
Set a unique Modbus slave address on the sensor (configurable from 1 to 255) and confirm the communication parameters are 19200 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit.
In the ModbusCloud portal, import the SETECNA MB-THL-SXX template and assign the correct slave address matching the physical sensor configuration.
Verify communication by checking that actual temperature and humidity readings appear on the cloud dashboard, then configure any desired alerts or setpoint controls.
Things to watch for
The gateway cannot communicate with the sensor. What should I check?
Confirm the baud rate is set to 19200 with 8 data bits, no parity, and 1 stop bit (19200, N, 8, 1) on both the sensor and the gateway. Also verify correct RS485 wiring polarity (A to A, B to B) and that a unique slave address is assigned.
Temperature or humidity readings show a consistent offset. How do I correct this?
The template exposes calibration offset registers for both temperature and humidity. Write an appropriate offset value to compensate for any systematic measurement deviation.
Can I place multiple MB-THL-SXX sensors on the same RS485 bus?
Yes. Each sensor must have a unique Modbus slave address between 1 and 255. Ensure proper bus termination if the cable run is long or if many devices share the bus.
The LED display shows values but the cloud dashboard does not update. What could be wrong?
The sensor is measuring locally but RS485 communication is failing. Check cable connections, confirm the slave address in the template matches the sensor, and verify that no other device on the bus shares the same address.
