KOSTAL PLENTICORE plus

Hybrid PV inverter with battery input, power control and energy meter values over Modbus TCP.

The KOSTAL PLENTICORE plus is a three-phase hybrid inverter that converts solar power, charges and discharges a home battery and reads a grid energy meter. This Modbus TCP template reads PV, AC, battery, grid and home consumption values and yield counters, and lets you write power limits, battery setpoints and SOC limits from ModbusCloud.

If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.

Number of installations (optional)

Use cases

  • Show PV, battery, grid and home power of one installation on a single ModbusCloud dashboard.
  • Get an email alert when the battery state of charge stays below a threshold or the inverter state changes to a fault.
  • Compare daily yield per PV input in the history to spot a shaded or failing string.
  • Set a feed-in limit or battery charge limit remotely when the grid operator or the customer asks for it.
  • Export a year of yield and battery energy counters as CSV for a performance report.

Installation

  1. Connect the inverter LAN port to the network where the ModbusCloud Gateway is connected, and give the inverter a fixed IP address.

  2. In the inverter web interface, enable Modbus/SunSpec (TCP) and keep the byte order on little-endian (CDAB).

  3. In ModbusCloud, add a Modbus TCP device with the inverter IP address, port 1502 and unit ID 71, then import this template.

  4. Check that Total AC Active Power and Battery State Of Charge show plausible values.

  5. For battery control, select external battery management via Modbus in the inverter before you write battery setpoints.

Things to watch for

The Gateway gets no answer from the inverter. What should I check?

Check that Modbus/SunSpec (TCP) is enabled in the inverter web interface, that you use port 1502 and not 502, and unit ID 71 unless it was changed. The inverter and the ModbusCloud Gateway must be in the same network, and the inverter needs a fixed IP address.

Why do all power and energy values look like nonsense?

The values are 32-bit floats and their word order follows the byte order setting in the inverter. This template expects the default little-endian (CDAB). If someone switched the inverter to big-endian (ABCD) for SunSpec, set it back or change the word order of the registers.

Why does writing a battery setpoint have no effect?

The inverter only follows battery setpoints when external battery management via Modbus is selected in its settings; Battery Management Mode then reads External via Modbus. Writing registers from ModbusCloud is off per gateway by default and is switched on by request on the control tab.

Why does the battery charge limit fall back after a while?

Max Battery Charge Power and Max Battery Discharge Power must be rewritten before Time Until Fallback runs out (30 to 10800 seconds); then the fallback limits apply. Set Time Until Fallback longer than your write interval, for example with a scheduled automation in ModbusCloud.

Are power limits kept after a restart?

No. The active power, reactive power and cos phi setpoints are not stored and the inverter drops them when it restarts or resets. Write them again after a restart if you need them, and check the grid code before you change reactive power or cos phi.
