If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.

Number of installations (optional)

Use cases

  • Monitor outside temperature, buffer tank levels, and boiler status on a live cloud dashboard for each customer site.
  • Adjust heating circuit setpoints and operating modes remotely without an on-site visit.
  • Create an alert when a pellet boiler modulation drops to zero or a fault status code appears.
  • Track solar thermal collector temperatures and solar gain to verify system performance over time.
  • Switch hot water operating modes and time programs from the ModbusCloud interface during seasonal changes.
  • Log ECO mode activation and forecast data to optimize pellet consumption across multiple buildings.

Installation

  1. Connect the ModbusCloud Gateway to the same local network as the ÖkoFEN Pelletronic controller, ensuring both devices can reach each other via TCP.

  2. Verify that Modbus TCP is enabled on the Pelletronic controller via its local display or configuration menu, and note the IP address and port number.

  3. In the ModbusCloud portal, add a new device, select the ÖkoFEN Pelletronic template from the library, and enter the IP address and TCP port of the controller.

  4. Confirm that the gateway can read registers by checking live values for outside temperature and buffer tank temperatures on the dashboard.

  5. If your system has fewer heating circuits, hot water circuits, boilers, or solar systems than the template maximum, disable unused register groups to keep the dashboard clean.

Things to watch for

Some registers return the same value for reading and writing. Is that expected?

Yes. Many registers in the Pelletronic share the same Modbus address for read and write operations. For example, addresses 3, 10, and 47 serve dual purposes. The template handles this automatically.

I only have one pellet boiler and no solar system. Do I need to change the template?

The template supports up to four boilers and three solar systems. You can disable unused register groups in the ModbusCloud device configuration to avoid polling addresses that return no data.

What IP port does the Pelletronic use for Modbus TCP?

The default Modbus TCP port is typically 502. Check the Pelletronic network settings on the local display to confirm the port. Ensure no firewall rules block traffic between the gateway and the controller.

Temperatures seem off by a factor of 10. How do I fix this?

Some Pelletronic registers return temperature values scaled by a factor of 10. The template includes the correct scaling factors. If values still look wrong, verify you are using the latest version of the template from the ModbusCloud library.
