Controls Chigo air conditioners via the ONOKOM CG-VRF-MB-B gateway
Overview
This template connects Chigo air conditioners to the ModbusCloud platform via the ONOKOM CG-VRF-MB-B gateway over Modbus RTU. It enables remote monitoring and control of supported Chigo VRF and split air conditioning units through a cloud dashboard.

Use cases
Monitor room temperature and operating mode of each Chigo indoor unit on a live cloud dashboard.
Control on/off state and target temperature of Chigo air conditioners remotely from the ModbusCloud platform.
Create an alert when an indoor unit reports an error code or goes offline unexpectedly.
Log historical temperature and runtime data for energy reporting and maintenance planning.
Manage multiple Chigo VRF zones across different sites from a single ModbusCloud account.
Installation
1Wire the ONOKOM CG-VRF-MB-B gateway to the Chigo air conditioning system following the ONOKOM installation manual.
2Connect the RS-485 (A, B, GND) terminals of the ONOKOM gateway to the RS-485 port on your ModbusCloud gateway (MCG or MLP series).
3Set the Modbus slave address, baud rate, and parity on the ONOKOM CG-VRF-MB-B to match the configuration in the ModbusCloud gateway.
4Import the ONOKOM AIR CG-VRF-MB-B template into your ModbusCloud project and assign it to the correct Modbus gateway port.
5Use the included example project (v1.0.1) to verify register mapping and confirm communication with the Chigo units.
6Check the live data view in the ModbusCloud dashboard to confirm that temperature readings and control commands are working correctly.
Things to watch for
01
No public register map is available. How do I know which registers to use?
The template ships with an example project (v1.0.1) that contains a working register configuration. Use this as your starting point and adjust if your Chigo unit model or ONOKOM firmware version differs.
02
What baud rate and parity settings should I use for the RS-485 connection?
The default settings for most ONOKOM gateways are 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, and no parity (9600 8N1). Confirm this in the ONOKOM device documentation before commissioning.
03
Can I control multiple indoor units with a single ONOKOM CG-VRF-MB-B gateway?
Yes. The CG-VRF-MB-B can address multiple Chigo indoor units on the same VRF bus. Each unit is typically mapped to a different set of Modbus registers or a different slave address depending on the ONOKOM configuration.
04
The template shows Modbus TCP but the gateway uses Modbus RTU. Is there a conflict?
The ModbusCloud platform handles protocol conversion internally. Your MCG or MLP gateway communicates with the ONOKOM device over RS-485 using Modbus RTU, while the cloud connection uses TCP. No additional converter is needed.
Working with Modbus in your projects?
ModbusCloud is the hardware-plus-software platform that installers use to monitor, visualise and control Modbus devices from one portal. This template is one of hundreds you can use right away.
