Onokom ONOKOM AIR TCL-3-MB-B Modbus RTU template

ONOKOM AIR TCL-3-MB-B

Controls TCL air conditioners via the ONOKOM TCL-3-MB-B Modbus gateway.

This template connects TCL air conditioners through the ONOKOM TCL-3-MB-B Modbus RTU gateway to the ModbusCloud platform. It provides indoor temperature readings, mode statuses, and full control over AC operating modes, fan speed, vane positions, and target temperature.

Use cases

  • Monitor indoor air temperature and heat exchanger temperature on a live cloud dashboard for each TCL AC unit.
  • Control target temperature and fan speed remotely to optimize comfort and energy use across multiple sites.
  • Create an alert when the AC connection status drops, indicating a wiring fault or gateway communication issue.
  • Switch TCL air conditioners on or off remotely during unoccupied hours to reduce energy consumption.
  • Track operating modes such as Eco, Turbo, and Sleep to verify that scheduled HVAC strategies are running correctly.

Installation

  1. Connect the ONOKOM TCL-3-MB-B gateway to the TCL indoor unit following the gateway manufacturer's wiring instructions.

  2. Wire the RS-485 A and B terminals of the ONOKOM gateway to the corresponding RS-485 port on the ModbusCloud Gateway.

  3. Set the serial port on the ModbusCloud gateway to 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, and 1 stop bit to match the ONOKOM default settings.

  4. If multiple ONOKOM gateways share the same RS-485 bus, assign each a unique Modbus address by writing to service register 128 on each gateway.

  5. Import the ONOKOM AIR TCL-3-MB-B template from the ModbusCloud template library and assign the correct Modbus slave address.

  6. Verify communication by checking that indoor air temperature and AC connection status appear on the ModbusCloud dashboard.

Things to watch for

Can I connect multiple ONOKOM TCL-3-MB-B gateways on one RS-485 bus?

Yes. Each gateway must have a unique Modbus slave address. You can change the address by writing to the service register at address 128. Ensure all gateways share the same baud rate of 9600.

Which registers are writable for controlling the AC unit?

Registers at addresses 2, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 are both readable and writable. These cover on/off control, target temperature, fan speed, fan modes, and vane swing functions.

The gateway does not respond after wiring. What should I check?

Verify that the RS-485 A and B lines are not swapped. Confirm the baud rate is set to 9600 on both the ModbusCloud gateway and the ONOKOM device. Also check that the correct Modbus slave address is configured in the template.

Does one ONOKOM gateway support multiple TCL indoor units?

No. Each ONOKOM TCL-3-MB-B gateway connects to a single TCL indoor unit. For multi-unit installations, use one gateway per AC unit on a shared RS-485 bus with unique addresses.
