Installation
Wire the ONOKOM GR-3-MB-B gateway to the Gree indoor unit following the manufacturer's wiring diagram, then connect the RS-485 A and B lines to your ModbusCloud Gateway.
Set a unique Modbus slave address on the ONOKOM gateway by writing the desired value to register 128, ensuring no address conflicts on the RS-485 bus.
Configure the ModbusCloud gateway serial port for Modbus RTU at 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity (or match the ONOKOM gateway settings).
Import the ONOKOM AIR GR-3-MB-B template from the ModbusCloud template library and assign it to the correct Modbus slave address.
Verify communication by checking that indoor air temperature and AC connected status values appear correctly on the ModbusCloud dashboard.
For multi-unit setups, repeat the wiring and address assignment for each additional ONOKOM gateway on the same RS-485 bus.
Things to watch for
Why do I see unexpected values when reading horizontal vanes or ionization status?
Register address 9 is shared between ionization and horizontal vanes functions. Make sure you interpret the register value according to the active function. The template maps both, but only one function may be relevant depending on your Gree model.
Can I connect multiple ONOKOM GR-3-MB-B gateways on one RS-485 bus?
Yes. Each gateway must have a unique Modbus slave address. Set the address via register 128 on each unit before connecting them to the same bus.
The gateway is not responding at all. What should I check?
Verify that the baud rate is set to 9600 on both the ModbusCloud gateway and the ONOKOM device. Check RS-485 wiring polarity (A to A, B to B) and ensure a termination resistor is present if the cable run is long.
Which Gree air conditioner models are compatible with this template?
The template works with any Gree AC unit supported by the ONOKOM GR-3-MB-B gateway. Consult the ONOKOM compatibility list for your specific Gree model before purchasing the gateway.
