Installation

1. 1Wire the ONOKOM HS-6-MB-B gateway to the Hisense air conditioner according to the ONOKOM installation manual, then connect the RS-485 A and B terminals to your ModbusCloud gateway (MCG or MLP series).
2. 2Set the Modbus slave address on the ONOKOM gateway, noting that the address can be changed by writing to register 128 if needed.
3. 3Configure the RS-485 port on the ModbusCloud gateway to use Modbus RTU at 9600 baud to match the ONOKOM default settings.
4. 4Import the ONOKOM HS-6-MB-B template from the ModbusCloud template library and assign it to the correct Modbus address.
5. 5Power on the air conditioner and verify that indoor temperature and AC connected status appear on the ModbusCloud dashboard.

Things to watch for

The gateway does not respond on the RS-485 bus. What should I check?

Verify that the A and B wires are not swapped between the ONOKOM gateway and the ModbusCloud gateway. Confirm the baud rate is set to 9600 on both sides and that the correct Modbus slave address is configured.

Can I connect multiple ONOKOM HS-6-MB-B gateways on the same RS-485 bus?

Yes. Each gateway must have a unique Modbus address. You can change the address by writing to register 128 on each unit. Make sure to assign distinct addresses before connecting them to the same bus.

The sleep mode and fan speed values seem to conflict. Why?

Register address 8 is shared for sleep mode and smart fan speed, serving as both a read and write register. Be careful when writing to this register, as it controls both functions. Check the ONOKOM documentation for the exact value mapping.

What happens if the air conditioner is powered off at the breaker?

The AC connected status register will indicate that the unit is not reachable. Temperature readings may show stale or zero values. The ModbusCloud dashboard will reflect the loss of communication.
