Onokom ONOKOM AIR TCL-1-MB-B Modbus RTU template

ONOKOM AIR TCL-1-MB-B

Controls TCL air conditioners via the ONOKOM TCL-1-MB-B Modbus gateway.

This template connects TCL air conditioners via the ONOKOM TCL-1-MB-B Modbus RTU gateway to the ModbusCloud platform. It provides temperature readings, operating mode status, fan speed, error reporting, and full HVAC control including target temperature, vane position, and eco/turbo/sleep/quiet modes.

Number of installations (optional)

Use cases

  • Monitor indoor and outdoor temperatures of TCL air conditioners on a live cloud dashboard for your customer.
  • Create an alert when the AC unit reports an error code or loses connection to the gateway.
  • Adjust target temperature and operating mode remotely without visiting the site.
  • Track fan speed and heat exchanger temperatures to verify correct operation after installation.
  • Switch between Eco, Turbo, Sleep, and Quiet modes based on time schedules or occupancy patterns.
  • Log historical temperature data to support energy audits and comfort optimization.

Installation

  1. Wire the ONOKOM TCL-1-MB-B gateway to the TCL air conditioner according to the ONOKOM installation manual and verify the AC connected status LED.

  2. Connect the RS-485 A and B terminals of the TCL-1-MB-B to the RS-485 port on your ModbusCloud Gateway, observing correct polarity.

  3. Set the Modbus slave address on the TCL-1-MB-B gateway and note it for configuration in the ModbusCloud platform.

  4. Confirm the baud rate is set to 9600 on both the TCL-1-MB-B and the ModbusCloud gateway.

  5. Import the ONOKOM AIR TCL-1-MB-B template in the ModbusCloud portal, enter the correct slave address, and verify that readings appear on your dashboard.

Things to watch for

Why do some registers seem to return unexpected values?

Some register addresses are shared between different functions, such as address 4 for outdoor air temperature and quiet mode. The template uses specific function codes to distinguish read and write operations. Make sure you have not manually altered the function code assignments in the template.

The gateway shows no data or the AC connected status is false. What should I check?

Verify the wiring between the ONOKOM TCL-1-MB-B and the TCL indoor unit. Ensure the unit is powered on and that the communication cable is seated correctly on both ends. Check that the TCL model is supported by the TCL-1-MB-B gateway.

What baud rate should I use?

The default baud rate for the ONOKOM TCL-1-MB-B is 9600. Make sure both the gateway and the ModbusCloud gateway RS-485 port are configured to 9600 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit (8N1).

Can I control multiple TCL units from one ModbusCloud gateway?

Yes. Connect each ONOKOM TCL-1-MB-B on the same RS-485 bus with a unique Modbus slave address. Import a separate template instance for each unit and assign the matching address in the ModbusCloud portal.
