SOLARFOCUS SOLARFOCUS Solar Modbus TCP template

SOLARFOCUS Solar

Reads SOLARFOCUS solar collector and tank values via Modbus TCP.

This template reads thermal solar collector data from SOLARFOCUS systems equipped with the ecoManager-touch controller via Modbus TCP. It provides collector temperatures, flow and return temperatures, current power output, energy yields, and tank sensor readings. No control registers are included.

Number of installations (optional)

Use cases

  • Monitor collector temperatures and current power output on a live cloud dashboard for each customer site.
  • Track daily and cumulative energy yield to verify that the solar thermal system performs as designed.
  • Create an alert when collector temperature drops unexpectedly while solar irradiance should be sufficient.
  • Compare tank sensor stratification readings across multiple installations to identify underperforming systems.
  • Log historical yield data for energy reporting or contractor documentation purposes.
  • Correlate solar thermal output with heat pump runtime to optimise hybrid heating strategies.

Installation

  1. Connect the ModbusCloud Gateway to the same IP network as the SOLARFOCUS ecoManager-touch controller.

  2. Activate Modbus TCP on the ecoManager-touch controller by following the SOLARFOCUS activation procedure, or contact your SOLARFOCUS partner for assistance.

  3. Note the IP address and Modbus TCP port of the ecoManager-touch and enter them in the ModbusCloud gateway configuration.

  4. Import the SOLARFOCUS Solar template from the ModbusCloud template library into your project.

  5. Verify that live values for collector temperature and current power appear on the ModbusCloud dashboard before completing the installation.

Things to watch for

Why do HM yield and daily yield show incorrect values?

These registers (2106 and 2108) are int32 values spanning two consecutive registers each. Make sure your configuration reads both registers as a 32-bit integer. If only one register is read, the value will be incorrect.

How do I activate Modbus TCP on the ecoManager-touch?

Modbus activation is done within the ecoManager-touch settings. SOLARFOCUS documentation for this procedure is available through their partner download area. Contact your SOLARFOCUS partner or branch if you need assistance.

What units are used for the register values?

Temperature values are in degrees Celsius. Current power is in kW. HM flow is in liters. HM yield and daily yield are in Wh. All values use int16 or uint16 encoding except the two yield registers, which are int32.

The gateway connects but all values read zero. What should I check?

Confirm that Modbus TCP is enabled and active on the ecoManager-touch. Verify the correct IP address and port. Also check that the solar system is operational, as some registers may legitimately read zero when the collector pump is off.
