SOLARFOCUS Solarfocus Heating & Cooling Modbus TCP template

Solarfocus Heating & Cooling

Controls and monitors Solarfocus heating and cooling systems via Modbus TCP.

This template connects Solarfocus heating and cooling systems (Vampair K, Vampair Pro) to ModbusCloud via Modbus TCP. It reads heat pump temperatures, compressor speed, energy totals, and operating states. It also allows external EVU lock control for the heat pump.

Number of installations (optional)

Use cases

  • Monitor flow and return temperatures and compressor speed on a live cloud dashboard for your customer.
  • Track thermal and electrical energy totals to calculate and report heat pump COP over time.
  • Create an alert when outdoor temperature drops below a threshold to anticipate increased heating demand.
  • Activate the EVU lock remotely to pause the heat pump during peak tariff periods or grid outages.
  • Integrate heat pump electrical consumption data with PV production monitoring for energy management.
  • Generate monthly heating and cooling performance reports for building owners or contractors.

Installation

  1. Ensure the Solarfocus ecoManager-touch controller is connected to the local network and has a static IP address assigned.

  2. Contact your Solarfocus partner to enable Modbus TCP on the ecoManager-touch, as this feature may require partner-level access to activate.

  3. Connect your ModbusCloud Gateway to the same local network as the ecoManager-touch.

  4. In the ModbusCloud portal, add a new device and import the Solarfocus Heating and Cooling template, then enter the IP address and Modbus TCP port of the ecoManager-touch.

  5. Verify that register values such as flow temperature, return temperature, and compressor speed appear correctly on the ModbusCloud dashboard.

  6. Test the EVU lock control by toggling it from the dashboard and confirming the heat pump responds accordingly.

Things to watch for

Energy totals show incorrect or very large values. What is wrong?

Energy totals are int32 values that span two consecutive Modbus registers. Make sure both registers are read together and interpreted as a 32-bit signed integer. Reading only one register will produce incorrect values.

I cannot enable Modbus TCP on the ecoManager-touch. How do I proceed?

Modbus activation on the ecoManager-touch typically requires Solarfocus partner credentials. Contact your Solarfocus distributor or partner to request access to the configuration settings and related documentation.

Temperature readings appear as whole numbers without decimals. Is this normal?

Yes. Temperature values are transmitted as int16 in degrees Celsius without decimal places. This is the native format provided by the ecoManager-touch controller.

Which Solarfocus heat pump models are supported by this template?

The template is tested with the Vampair K and Vampair Pro models. Other Solarfocus systems using the ecoManager-touch may also work, but compatibility should be verified with Solarfocus partner documentation.
