The gateway connects but register 533 always returns zero. Why?

A zero reading during daylight usually means the inverter's RS485 port is not responding. Check that the Modbus address on the inverter display matches the unit ID configured in the portal (default is 1), and confirm the baud rate is 9600 with 8-N-1. Some units only respond after the communication settings have been saved and the inverter restarted.

I get CRC errors or no response on the RS485 bus. What should I check?

CRC errors on ZCS Azzurro RS485 connections are often caused by swapped A/B wires. Try reversing the A+ and B- leads on the Gateway side. Also verify you are using a twisted-pair cable without long stub connections, and that no other device on the same RS485 bus shares the same Modbus unit ID.

The energy register at address 540 shows a very large or implausible number. Is that normal?

Register 540 is a uint32 spanning two consecutive holding registers. If your polling tool reads only one word (uint16), the value will be truncated and appear wrong. Ensure the template is configured to read a uint32 (2 registers) starting at address 540 with function code 3.

The inverter COM port is already used by the battery. How can I still read Modbus data?

If the COM port is occupied by a battery BMS connection, you can use an RS485-to-Ethernet converter on a second RS485 port if available, or bridge the existing RS485 bus carefully. Multiple devices can share the same RS485 bus provided each has a unique Modbus unit ID and the bus termination is correct.
