ZCS Azzurro Inverter (battery)

Installation

1. 1Enable Modbus RTU on the ZCS Azzurro Hybrid Inverter by navigating to Settings, then Modbus Address, and confirming the unit ID (default is 1) and baud rate (9600, 8N1) on the inverter display.
2. 2Wire the RS485 interface: connect the A(+) line to pin 5 and the B(-) line to pin 6 of the inverter COM port, then run the cable to the RS485 port of the ModbusCloud Gateway.
3. 3In the ModbusCloud portal, add a new gateway, import the ZCS Azzurro Inverter (battery) template, and set the unit ID to match the value confirmed on the inverter display.
4. 4Verify the connection by checking that registers 525 (power) and 528 (soc) return live values in the portal dashboard; a reading of 0 on both while the battery is idle is normal and expected.

Things to watch for

The gateway connects but both registers read zero constantly. Why?

Zero on both registers is normal when the battery is fully charged and PV production matches load exactly. If zeros persist during active charging or discharging, check that the Modbus unit ID in the portal matches the ID set on the inverter display under Settings, and confirm 9600 baud 8N1 is selected.

I get CRC errors or no response on the RS485 bus. What should I check?

CRC errors on ZCS Azzurro RS485 connections are often caused by reversed A/B wiring or a missing common ground. Confirm A(+) is on pin 5 and B(-) is on pin 6 of the COM port. Also ensure no other device is polling the same bus simultaneously, as the inverter does not tolerate concurrent masters.

Register 528 (soc) shows values above 100 or fluctuates erratically. What is wrong?

Address 528 is a uint16 with no scaling factor, so the raw value should equal the percentage directly. Values above 100 usually indicate the wrong unit ID is being polled and a different device is responding. Verify the unit ID on the inverter display and re-scan. Also confirm function code 3 is used, not function code 4.

The power register (address 525) shows unexpected large negative values. Is this dangerous?

Address 525 is a signed int16, so large negative values indicate high charge power, which is normal. However, if these values appear while you believe the battery is discharging, double-check your wiring polarity. Do not rely on portal data alone to make decisions about inverter load limits: always consult the ZCS Azzurro Hybrid Inverter display for real-time protection status.
