Agrowtek Agrowtek BDX Fertigation System Modbus TCP template

Agrowtek BDX Fertigation System

Batch fertigation system that mixes nutrients to EC and pH targets and feeds up to 14 zones.

The Agrowtek BDX BatchMATIC is a batch fertigation system that mixes nutrient solution to recipe targets for EC and pH and feeds it to up to 14 zones in greenhouses and indoor farms. This Modbus TCP template reads system and job status, tank volume, pH, EC, temperature, ORP, flow, pumps, valves and recipe details, and lets you pause or run the system and queue events from ModbusCloud.

If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.

Number of installations (optional)

Use cases

  • Show system status, job step, tank volume, pH and EC of the BDX on one ModbusCloud dashboard.
  • Get an email or webhook as soon as the system status turns to error, with a rule on that value.
  • Compare the two pH and EC sensors over 365 days of history to spot a drifting probe.
  • Alert on the tank high and low level inputs with a rule on the change condition.
  • Pause the BDX or add the next event to the queue from the portal.

Installation

  1. Connect the BDX controller by Ethernet to the same network as the ModbusCloud Gateway and give it a fixed IP address.

  2. Enable the TCP command server on the BDX and note the port it uses.

  3. In ModbusCloud, add a Modbus device with protocol TCP, the BDX IP address, that port and unit ID 1, and import this template.

  4. Check that pH, EC and temperature match the controller screen. Remove the second sensor set, flow or pumps your BDX does not have.

  5. To read recipe or event details, write the index to the property index register first, then read the property registers.

Things to watch for

The BDX does not answer on Modbus TCP. What should I check?

Check that the TCP command server is enabled on the BDX and that ModbusCloud uses the same port; the BDX can run it on any port. Check the IP address and that the BDX is reachable from the network of the ModbusCloud Gateway. The unit ID is not documented; try 1 first.

Writing a pump speed or valve returns an error.

Pumps and machine coils only accept writes in diagnostic mode, otherwise the BDX answers slave device busy. Write 3 to System Status first; pump speeds accept only 0 or 100. Write 1 to return to automatic run; 2 cannot be written. Writing is off per gateway by default; request it for the gateway in the portal.

Recipe values stay the same. How do I read another recipe?

Recipe, event, part and queue details are property registers. They show the recipe or event whose index is in the property index register. Write another index to read the next one; an index beyond the number of stored recipes or events is refused.

Which units do tank volume and flow use?

Tank and batch volume are in US gallons, flow in gallons per minute with two decimals. Multiply gallons by 3.785 for litres. Temperature is in °C, EC in microsiemens and ORP in millivolts.
