Agrowtek SXE Environment Sensor
Climate sensor with display for drying and grow rooms: temperature, humidity, light and CO2.
The Agrowtek SXE is a fan-aspirated climate sensor with display that measures air temperature, humidity, light and optional CO2 in drying rooms, greenhouses and grow rooms. This Modbus RTU template reads all sensor values and identification, and lets you write calibration offsets, the units toggle and the device address from ModbusCloud.

If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.
Use cases
- Show temperature, humidity and CO2 of every drying room on one dashboard.
- Send an alert when humidity in a drying room rises above your limit.
- Keep 365 days of climate history as a record of each drying batch.
- Spot a failed sensor when a reading jumps to 9999 or CO2 drops to 0.
- Correct a temperature offset on site against a reference thermometer.
Installation
Connect the SXE GrowNET RJ45 port to an Agrowtek LX2 ModLINK, and the LX2 TX/RX+ and TX/RX- to RS485 A and B of the ModbusCloud Gateway.
Give each sensor a unique address in the SETUP menu under DEVICE ADD and keep COMM on Normal.
Leave the LX2 at 19200 baud, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, or match it in ModbusCloud.
In ModbusCloud, add a Modbus RTU device with the sensor address and import this template.
Check that temperature and humidity match the display.
Things to watch for
The sensor shows on its display but does not answer Modbus requests.
The SXE speaks Modbus only through an LX2 ModLINK. Check the RJ45 cable, that the LX2 has power, that A and B are not swapped and that the sensor address is unique on the bus. The COMM mode in the SETUP menu must be Normal.
Why does a value read 9999 or CO2 read 0?
9999 marks a failed temperature, humidity or light sensor. CO2 reads 0 when the CO2 module is missing or has failed. Check the fan and filter first, then reset the calibration.
Should I read the integer or the float values?
Both give the same reading. The integer values are scaled (temperature x100, humidity x10) and the template already applies that. The float values need two registers each and no scaling.
What happens when I write a calibration value?
Writing to a calibration register starts the calibration at once. Write the correct reading in the integer scale, for example 2500 for 25.00 °C. CO2 calibration only works at 400 ppm in fresh outdoor air. Writing 1 to Clear Calibration restores the factory values.
