Agrowtek HXT Moisture Hub
Hub for eight substrate sensors with water content, EC and temperature per port.
The Agrowtek HXT is a sensor hub that connects up to eight Teros 12 or Terralink substrate sensors to a Modbus RTU network through the LX2 ModLINK. This template reads water content, electrical conductivity and substrate temperature per port in ModbusCloud, plus serial number, firmware version and model of the hub.

If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.
Use cases
- Show water content, EC and substrate temperature of eight slabs in one greenhouse on a ModbusCloud dashboard.
- Send an email when the EC on a port rises above the limit the grower set for that crop.
- Compare the drying curve of slabs over the day in the 365 day history to tune irrigation start times.
- Export a week of substrate data as CSV for the grower or crop consultant.
- Spot a failed sensor or cable when one port suddenly drops to 0 while the others keep reading.
Installation
Plug the Teros 12 or Terralink sensors into the TRS ports of the HXT, using adapter cables for M8 sensors.
Connect the GrowNET port with a CAT5 or CAT6 cable to an LX2 ModLINK, directly or through an HX8 hub.
Wire TX/RX+ and TX/RX- of the LX2 to the RS485 port of the ModbusCloud Gateway and terminate the bus.
In ModbusCloud, add a Modbus RTU device with the address of the HXT, 19200 baud, 8 data bits, no parity and 1 stop bit, and import this template.
Check that the ports with a sensor show plausible EC and temperature values.
Things to watch for
The hub does not answer. What should I check?
Check that the LX2 ModLINK is powered and set to 19200 baud 8N1 or to the settings you chose in the ModLINK utility. Check the device address of the HXT and that no other device uses it, and swap TX/RX+ and TX/RX- if needed.
How do I write a new device address?
Write the new address 1 to 247 to Device Address. On a new hub with an unknown address, use broadcast address 254 with only that device on the bus. Writing from ModbusCloud is off per gateway by default and is switched on by request on the control tab.
Why does the water content show a large number instead of a percentage?
The hub sends the raw count of the sensor, not a percentage. The conversion depends on the substrate and the sensor calibration, so compare the raw count with the values in the grower's own system or with the sensor maker's calibration for that substrate.
Why do some ports read 0?
A port without a sensor, or with a faulty cable or sensor, has no reading. Plug the sensor directly into the port to rule out an extension cable, try another port, and unplug all sensors if none read, because one short circuit can stop the others.
