ONOKOM AIR AUX-1-MB-B
Controls AUX air conditioners via the ONOKOM AUX-1-MB-B Modbus gateway
This template connects AUX air conditioners via the ONOKOM AUX-1-MB-B Modbus RTU gateway to the ModbusCloud platform. It provides indoor and outdoor temperature readings, operating status, and full HVAC control including modes, fan speed, and on/off switching.

Use cases
- Monitor indoor and outdoor air temperatures of AUX air conditioners on a live cloud dashboard.
- Remotely switch AUX units on or off and adjust target temperature without visiting the site.
- Create an alert when the indoor temperature deviates from the setpoint by more than a defined threshold.
- Track operating modes and fan speeds across multiple AUX units in a commercial building.
- Verify AC connection status to detect communication failures or offline units in real time.
- Log turbo and sleep mode usage to optimize energy consumption for your customer.
Installation
Connect the ONOKOM AUX-1-MB-B gateway to the AUX indoor unit following the wiring instructions provided by ONOKOM.
Wire the RS-485 A and B terminals of the ONOKOM gateway to the corresponding terminals on your ModbusCloud Gateway.
Set the Modbus slave address on the ONOKOM gateway by writing the desired address to register 128, ensuring it does not conflict with other devices on the bus.
Configure the serial port on your ModbusCloud gateway to Modbus RTU, 9600 baud, matching the ONOKOM default settings.
Import the ONOKOM AUX-1-MB-B template from the ModbusCloud template library and assign it to the correct slave address.
Verify communication by checking that indoor temperature and AC connection status appear on the ModbusCloud dashboard.
Things to watch for
What baud rate should I use for the ONOKOM AUX-1-MB-B?
The default baud rate is 9600. Make sure the serial port settings on your ModbusCloud gateway match this value exactly.
Can I have multiple ONOKOM gateways on the same RS-485 bus?
Yes. Each gateway must have a unique Modbus slave address. You can change the address by writing to register 128 on each unit.
Some registers seem to overlap for reading and writing. Is this a problem?
Certain addresses serve different functions depending on the operation. For example, register 10 reads vertical vane position but triggers self-cleaning when written. The template accounts for this, but avoid manual writes to shared addresses without consulting the register map.
The dashboard shows the AC unit as not connected. What should I check?
Verify the wiring between the ONOKOM gateway and the AUX indoor unit. Confirm the indoor unit is powered on. Also check that the RS-485 A and B lines to the ModbusCloud gateway are not swapped.
