Belimo 6-way EPIV V1 Modbus RTU
Controls a 6-way pressure-independent characterised control valve with real-time flow measurement.
Template for the Belimo 6-way EPIV V1 electronically pressure-independent characterised control valve (EP..R-R6+BAC). Reads real-time volumetric flow, valve position, active sequence, and fault status via Modbus RTU. Allows setpoint control, override, and per-sequence Vmax configuration.

If a device is not in the library yet, we build the template for free as soon as we have the register data.
Use cases
- Monitor real-time volumetric flow and valve position on a cloud dashboard to verify correct hydronic balancing.
- Create an alert when a malfunction or service flag is raised so you can respond before comfort is affected.
- Adjust Vmax values for heating and cooling sequences remotely to fine-tune zone flow rates after commissioning.
- Track active sequence switching between heating and cooling to validate changeover logic in four-pipe systems.
- Override valve setpoints remotely during seasonal commissioning or troubleshooting without visiting the site.
- Log absolute volumetric flow over time to identify drift or partial blockages in the hydronic circuit.
Installation
Wire the Belimo EP..R-R6+BAC actuator to the ModbusCloud Gateway using a shielded twisted pair cable connected to the RS-485 A and B terminals.
Set the Modbus RTU slave address on the actuator, either via NFC using the Belimo Assistant App or through the DIP switches on the device.
Confirm the baud rate is set to 38400 on both the actuator and the gateway serial port configuration.
Import the Belimo 6-way EPIV V1 template from the ModbusCloud template library and assign it to the correct gateway serial port and slave address.
Verify that flow and position readings appear on the ModbusCloud dashboard, then configure the flow unit register if you need a unit other than the default.
Add any required alerts or logging rules in ModbusCloud for malfunction flags, flow deviations, or position thresholds.
Things to watch for
Why do I see zero or incorrect values for absolute volumetric flow?
Absolute volumetric flow is stored as a uint32 value spanning two consecutive Modbus registers. Make sure the template is reading both registers in the correct byte order. The template handles this automatically, but a mismatched slave address or partial read timeout can cause zeroed values.
What baud rate should I use for the Belimo 6-way EPIV?
The default baud rate is 38400. Both the actuator and the ModbusCloud gateway serial port must be configured to the same baud rate, parity, and stop bit settings.
Can I change the flow measurement unit remotely?
Yes. The template includes a write register for unit selection. You can switch flow units through the ModbusCloud dashboard without physically accessing the actuator.
Which Belimo models are supported by this template?
The template is designed for models matching the pattern EP..R-R6+BAC, which covers the 6-way EPIV range in DN 15 and DN 20 sizes.
