On this page
You can link a gateway before it is installed on site. Until its first message arrives, the portal shows the gateway as Pending. Connecting the gateway itself is covered in Connect the gateway.
What you need
- The 10-digit serial number. It is on the back of the gateway.
- The role Owner, Admin or Technician. With Read only, or as an end customer, you do not see the Add gateway button.
- An account in your own organisation, as in Sign in and create your organisation. You cannot add a gateway in the demo account.
Link the gateway
Loading the walkthrough.
Open the gateway list
Open Gateways in the menu.
Start adding
Click Add gateway at the top right. If the list has no gateways yet, the button is in the middle of the page.
Enter the serial number
In Serial number, enter the 10-digit number. The drawing below the field shows the label of the gateway, with the serial number outlined in red.
Check the number
Click Next. The portal checks the number and moves on to the customer.
Choose the customer
In Select customer, choose the customer where the gateway is installed.
Start a new customer
If the customer is not in the list yet, click + Create new customer.
Enter the customer name
For a new customer, enter the name in Customer name.
Choose an address
If you want to see the gateway on the Fleet Map, choose an address from the suggestions in Location.
Link the gateway
Click Link gateway. The portal opens the gateway page with the status Pending.
The gateway takes the name of the customer. If a customer has more gateways, give each one its own name in Gateway settings. If you chose the wrong customer, change it as described in Manage customers.
Wait for the connection
The status becomes Online as soon as the portal receives the first message from the gateway. The gateway reports in even without readings, so no Modbus device has to be connected yet.
After you switch it on, the gateway needs 2 to 3 minutes to start up. If it was already on when you linked it, it becomes Online with its next message. While it is Pending, no offline alert fires.
If the gateway is still not Online 5 minutes after switching on or linking, work through Gateway does not come online. Once it is Online, continue with Add Modbus devices.
Default alerts after linking
A gateway you link this way immediately gets the alert rule Gateway offline. The five checks of automatic monitoring are also set to On straight away. A Modbus device you add later falls under those checks automatically. You choose who receives the email from these rules in Choose who receives alert emails.
Linking fails
If the window stays on the serial number after Next, read the message below the field.
- If the message starts with Ongeldig serienummer. (invalid serial number), check that you entered exactly 10 digits, without spaces.
- If the window reports Dit apparaat is al gekoppeld aan een account. (this device is already linked to an account), the gateway is already in your organisation. Find it in Gateways by serial number.
If the message Apparaat aanmaken mislukt. Probeer het opnieuw of neem contact op met support. (creating the device failed, try again or contact support) appears after Link gateway, the serial number is already in the portal, for example in another organisation. If the gateway is in another organisation, its owner must first decommission it, as in Decommission or replace a gateway. If it still does not work, contact us through the support page and send the serial number.
