Closing does not delete the customer. They stay in Customers. Their customer portal is turned off, and so is everything tied to the accounts of their end customers. You cannot undo this with one click.

What you need

  • The role Owner or Admin. With other roles, Close customer is not on the customer page.

What closing changes

The table shows what is different after closing.

ItemAfter closing
Customer portal of the customerPortal active is off and the address shows This portal is not available. Address, permissions and logo are kept
End customers of this customerThey no longer see anything of your organisation. Their account itself remains
Open invitationsExpire. The link in the invitation email no longer works
Alert rules that end customers of this customer createdTurned off and no longer send email. They stay in the list
Reports that end customers scheduled for this customerTurned off. They remain
Who gets notified of alarms on the gateways of the customerThe end customers are no longer listed
Gateways and Modbus devicesStay linked to the customer and keep measuring
Dashboards and historyAre kept, including dashboards that end customers created themselves

If an end customer is also linked to another customer of your organisation, they keep access to that customer. All their alert rules are turned off, including those on gateways of the other customer.

Close a customer

Closing happens on the customer page and asks for one confirmation. What else is on that page is described in Manage customers.

  1. Open the customer list

    Open Customers in the menu.

  2. Choose the customer

Click the card of the customer. The customer page opens.

  3. Start closing

On the right under Actions, click Close customer. The window Close customer opens with the name of the customer and what happens.

  4. Confirm closing

Click Close customer in the window. The portal shows Customer closed. and how many people no longer have access.

Apart from the customer portal, closing only affects what is tied to the accounts of the end customers. An email address of the customer that your team entered itself still receives email. So check these places:

  • Who gets notified of alarms at the bottom of the gateway page of every gateway of the customer. Remove a separate address with Email only, no access to the portal using the trash can behind it. How that block works is described in Choose who receives alert emails.
  • Email recipients in the alert rules your team created.
  • Recipients in the reports your team scheduled.
  • A dashboard that you shared with the customer through a public link. That link keeps working until you revoke it, as described in Share a dashboard with a link.

Give a customer access again later

First turn Portal active back on in the block Customer portal, as in Turn on a customer portal. After that, a closed customer gets access again with a new invitation, as in Give a customer access. Anyone who already had an account signs in with their existing password when accepting the invitation. Alert rules and reports that were turned off when closing are not turned back on automatically.

Delete a customer completely

Delete customer is under Actions directly below Close customer. It removes the customer itself, and a deleted customer does not come back. The portal first asks Delete customer? Gateways will be unlinked.

Deleting does not turn off the alert rules that end customers of the customer created. If you want to remove a customer, close them first and delete them after that.
