The person you invite gets the role End customer. Their menu contains only Overview, Alerts, Dashboards and Reports, and they cannot control registers. You set which gateways, Modbus devices and registers they see in Choose what your customer sees. The other ways to let a customer follow along are in Let your customer follow along.
What you need
- The role Owner or Admin. With the other roles, the block Portal access is not on the customer page.
- A customer with the gateways of the installation. How to create one is described in Manage customers.
- An active customer portal for this customer. Without a customer portal, the block Portal access has no field to invite.
- The language of your customer under Email language on the customer page. The invitation is sent in that language.
- The email address of the person at your customer.
Invite someone at your customer
Loading the walkthrough.
Open the customer list
Open Customers in the menu.
Open the customer
Click the customer.
Find the block
Scroll to the block Portal access.
Enter the email address
Enter the address of the person in Email address.
Send the invitation
Click Invite. The portal shows Invitation sent and the address appears in the block with Not accepted yet.
Invite each person with their own email address. Once someone accepts, they appear in the block with their name and since when they have access. An invitation expires after 7 days and then disappears from the block. Invite the person again after that.
View as customer in the block Customer portal shows the portal the way your customer sees it. How that works is described in Turn on a customer portal.
What the recipient receives
The recipient gets an email with the button Create account. With it, they create an account or sign in with an account they already have. After that they are straight in the portal.
The steps for your customer are in Invited by your installer.
An account belongs to one organisation. If the address already belongs to another organisation in ModbusCloud, the recipient sees You are already a member of this organization. Invite them with another email address in that case.
Email address of a team member
If the address belongs to a team member of your own organisation, no email goes out. The team member gets the role End customer straight away and the portal shows Linked to this customer. If they are already an end customer of another customer, this customer is added.
An owner cannot become an end customer. For their address, the portal shows An owner cannot be made an end customer. What each role may do is described in Team members and roles.
What your customer may do
By default, your customer creates alert rules, dashboards and reports for their own gateways. Inviting colleagues is off by default. They cannot acknowledge or resolve alerts. That stays with your own team.
An alert rule that your customer creates only emails your customer or the addresses they enter in the rule. On the page Alert Rules, such a rule shows Set up by customer with the customer name. How to prepare dashboards and reports for them is described in Prepare the overview, dashboards and reports.
Revoke access
You revoke access per person.
Open the customer
Open the customer.
Find the block
Scroll to the block Portal access.
Choose the person
Click the trash can next to the name. The portal asks whether you want to revoke the access.
Confirm revoking
Click Confirm. The portal shows Access revoked.
An invitation that has not been accepted yet disappears immediately when you click the trash can. The link in the email then no longer works.
If the person only had access to this customer, the portal also removes them from your organisation. Alert rules and reports they created themselves remain. Delete them under Alert Rules and Reports if nobody needs them anymore.
If nobody at the customer should sign in anymore, close the customer. How that works is described in Close a customer.
